J&J Treewackers
The base of a very large hardwood being inspected: a gloved hand rests on the bark beside a long vertical split and an open hollow cavity, with shelf fungus growing along the root flare and a sounding mallet set down on the roots.

Tree Service Areas in Roanoke Valley

The shop is in Moneta. The trucks run the valley every week.

Towns the Crew Runs To

If you are inside this list, the trucks are already coming your way most weeks, which usually means a faster day for your job. If you are just outside it, call anyway and an arborist will tell you straight whether the crew can get there.

These gentlemen have done tree work for me over the past 20 years... they are thoroughly honest and reliable and they show up to work when they say they will.

About This Region and Its Trees

Ridge lots, river bottoms and the terrain between

The valley runs from the Blue Ridge slopes down to the Roanoke River bottom, and the terrain changes what a tree job costs more than almost anything else. A ridge lot with a switchback drive and a retaining wall is a different day than a flat yard a bucket truck can back into.

Clay, shale and thin soil over the roots

Heavy clay holds water and loosens root plates in a wet spring. Thin soil over shale gives big hardwoods less to hold onto than their canopy suggests. Both show up on the arborist's walk before anything gets quoted.

Ice storms, wind events and saturated ground under mature trees

Winter ice loads split mature hardwoods at the crotch, summer storms take the tops out of pines, and saturated ground pushes over trees that looked fine in August. The pattern repeats every year, and the crew works it every year.

Oak, ash, maple, pine and the pests working on them

Emerald ash borer has taken ash across the region, oaks decline from the top down, and Dutch elm disease still moves through the remaining elms. Naming the species and the pest is what tells you whether a tree can be treated or has to come out.

One shop, one crew of arborists, one phone number

You do not get a dispatch center or a subcontractor you have never met. Jeff, Jerry and Garth own the company, and one of them is on your property before the work is quoted.

What the Crew Does When It Gets There

The crew runs the same five jobs wherever the truck parks: tree removal, tree trimming and pruning, stump removal, emergency storm response and tree risk assessment. Every one of them ends with the brush chipped and the ground raked.

What service do you need?

An arborist gets back to you once the crew is off the ropes for the day. If the tree is on the house or in the road, call instead.

Thanks. An arborist will call you back about the tree.

A cleared residential yard after a tree removal, the grass raked clean and open to the treeline with the low sun across it.
